Comment:
Yeasts in faecal smear stained with Trichrome. On wet mounts they can be mistaken for protozoan cysts. In Trichrome stains under LM, they appear uniformly stained red to green. If there are budding yeast cells and/or pseudohyphae present in a fresh or freshly fixed sample, they should be reported as they may indicate the presence of pathogenic yeasts, particularly important in immuno-suppressed patients.
